Photo reportage in black & white: Wrestling
A photo reportage in black & white of a ‘Freestyle Wrestling Championship’ in The Hague. It may seem extremely violent but it’s all show.
The wrestlers have prearranged and rehearsed their moves and punches together so injuries are limited to bruises and scratches. But the fans are young and get completely engrossed in the fights. Heroes are cheered, their opponents booed. It’s the ultimate glorification of violence.
“For this photo reportage I explicitely chose black and white as it’s so graphic and powerful. Colour would just have distracted from the essence.”
